OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium)

The Map24 GeoRSS service provides a basic implementation of GeoRSS Simple. Currently this service supports mainly RSS 2 as feed technology.

GeoRSS in general is a technology for distributing news feeds with corresponding location attributes among a great variety of clients. Geographically encoded news feeds may be organized thematically in channels and visualized in web mapping solutions like Map24 Portal. Since GeoRSS is evaluated by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), it is a prospective standard in the geospatial domain.

Potential application fields range from spatial allocation of news, forum postings, and weblogs to the aggregation of distributed news channels to comprise personalized information profiles. The already widely used RSS format is therefore enhanced by allowing users to define spatial queries. Regional search queries on cultural information or sports events allow a highly customized news profile for any user.
